Pool water clears when contaminants are removed through effective filtration, adequate circulation and properly balanced water chemistry. When one part of this process is not working, dirt, algae and fine particles can remain suspended even while the pool pump is running.
Common causes include a dirty or damaged filter, old filter sand, insufficient pump run time, weak circulation, incorrect chemical levels, dead algae, blocked baskets or a pool pump that is not moving enough water.
Adding more chlorine without addressing the filtration problem may temporarily change the colour of the water without making it clear. The pool system must circulate and remove the dead algae and debris after treatment.
